Ingatestone
Our client’s vision for this project was to create a refined replacement dwelling that not only accommodates modern living but enhances the architectural quality of the local area. With a strong focus on craftsmanship and environmental stewardship, the proposal reflects a commitment to using the highest quality materials and creating a home that is both beautiful and ecologically mindful.
Brief
The aim was to design a replacement dwelling that aligns with the rural setting, incorporating natural materials and a restrained aesthetic that respects the local setting. This proposal includes carefully considered landscaping, ecological measures, and an arboricultural assessment to enhance the area’s biodiversity.
Concept
In designing this new dwelling, we’ve integrated context-sensitive architectural details and a refined material palette that respects the traditional character of the site. The concept includes expansive windows and a strategic layout that maximises natural light and views of the surrounding landscape. Enhanced landscaping offers a rich ecological habitat, blending the boundary between the property and the natural environment, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.
Careful consideration was given to tree preservation around the property; the arboricultural assessment informed adjustments to the design to protect and incorporate existing mature trees, which add to the natural beauty and privacy of the site.
Challenges
Balancing the client's desire for a high-specification dwelling with the need to minimise ecological impact posed some challenges, particularly in managing the local biodiversity and preserving existing trees. Working closely with arboricultural and ecological consultants allowed us to address these considerations thoughtfully, ensuring a harmonious blend of modern functionality and environmental respect. The design process required a thorough analysis of materials and construction methods that could enhance durability while reducing environmental impact, achieving the balance between architectural integrity and ecological responsibility.
